Job description:

Duties: Structural designers create structural plans for various construction projects, following all building and safety codes. They may adjust the design during the construction process, and consult with contractors to ensure that projects are finished on time and under budget. They also ensure older structures remain safe

Things they produce: cost-effective and safe designs of buildings, roads, dams, tunnels, ships towers, and others

Other Professionals they work with: Architects, Interior Designers, and General Contractors etc.

How they impact other professions: while architects and other designers make the building pretty and expensive, the structural engineer make sure that the building are more economic, stable, and safe.

Working condition: They usually work in offices, but they travel regularly to construction sites to troubleshoot on-site problems.

Hours they work: Most structural designers work standard 40-hour weeks, but they may work overtime if there are construction issues.

Tools they use: they usually use computer programs such as, AutoCAD, 3D XML, calculator, and others

Earnings: The salary of a structural engineer in the beginning is $55,715. The salary of a structural engineer in the middle is $69,318. The salary of a structural engineer in the end is $101,178. Coursework: In terms of education nowadays you get a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering, but, most Engineering schools offer classes within civil Engineering that are purely geotechnical, or environmental, etc. In fact, even the Master’s and PhD degree programs offer classes specifically in the area of one’s choice, and Structural Engineering is one of those choices.

Credentialing Process:

You need a bachelor degree in civil engineering. You need to pass a test to get a license.

You need 4 years of acceptable structural engineering experience after the confirmation of BS degree, and this job requires background check
